Lego(c) Archer - quickdoodle

I quick-doodled one of my favourite characters from the Lego Battering
Ram / Castle Wall set that my parents gave me when I was 4 or 5 years
young (thank you Mum and Dad!) This archer was taller than the rest
(because of its arrow quiver attachment) Of course I made it look
shiny here, reliving its glory days; it's actually over 25 years old
now, much-loved, wobbly-jointed and non-shiny... but it still makes me
smile. =)

Rip Van Tinkle takes a Twirl (For IF)

"Ada gigi kat bawah" ('you must have teeth there') - said by delightful Nyonya grandma, when encountering grandchild's pyjama pants with holes at the seam.

So today, the (true) story goes: a person (not to be named) decided to don some purple and grey-striped underthings, and went about the whole corporate workday, before realizing with horror (during a WC break), that there was a large rip in the seam of their nice brown pants, with delightful purple-and-grey stripes showing. -Almost gleefully!

What would it look like if a ripped seam took a gleeful twirl? Perhaps this quick-doodle might be a possibility.

Not quite my regular doodle subject, but why not, just for today.

For Alleycat Acres challenge: microvolunteering via Sparked.com

A quick doodle for Alleycat Acres' year end thank you cards (microvolunteering via Sparked.com)

Alleycat Acres is 'a 100% volunteer run organization that helps create a network of neighborhood run farms in an effort to (re)connect people, place + produce.

Sparked.com is a 'microvolunteering' site where non-profits and charity organizations post 'challenges' (requests for help), and are matched to volunteers according to the volunteer's skills. E.g. if you're good at presentations, you can choose to participate in a related 'challenge' and volunteer to create a nice presentation needed by a certain non-profit, for free.

I doodled this in response to Alleycat Acres' challenge (request):

Bikes + Farms. 2011 Year End Thank You Cards. Help Us Design Them! Yes. We need some fancy new designs for thank you cards that we need to send to our network of donors for their amazing contributions in 2011 (which enabled two farms to grow over 2,000 pounds of food). Even Superheroes (and V?) face computer problems [Quick-doodle]

Thankful for friends who send things that make me smile. Shamina Tasneem's link to [http://www.agent-x.com.au/comic/heroic-computer-problems] made me wonder if V (for Vendetta, 'face' of the Occupy Movement) might get stuck at 'Loading...99%' hence this hurried quick-doodle/sketch :) Happy Monday! =)

[The phrase "The 99%" is a political slogan of the 'Occupy Movement' protesters against economic and social inequality. The Guy Fawkes mask worn by protestors is based on the graphic novel V for Vendetta, created by Alan Moore in the 1980s.]

SugarWhips Macaroons!

My friend Fatin has started her own mini-business+passion: making (and selling) macaroons at www.SugarWhips.com - SugarWhips macaroons are delicious because they are not too sweet, and come in interesting flavours; even the macaroon shells have an excellent variety of flavours! Delightfully, she surprised me with some wonderful macaroon flavours! So I did a little doodle (with a photo of the macaroons on the left - the photo doesn't quite do justice to the actual beautiful shades of the macaroons; I think it's my camera settings affecting the colours). Well done on a delicious, well made range of products, and good luck Fatin!

Lotus seed pods

Surprise! Thank you AK for bringing these and teaching me how to eat
the seeds, raw! Tear them out of the pod, bite the green outer skin a
little, pop the yellow seed out, split it in half, discard the green
'heart,' eat the yellow seed like a peanut. As a child I used to help
Grandma pick at the green hearts of each pale yellow seed with a
safety-pin, to ensure the seeds stayed whole. The green parts were
bitter and had to be discarded before boiling the seeds for a healthy
herbal soup. :)

Dua bantal, satu mimpi

'Dua bantal, satu mimpi,' (roughly translated as 'two pillows, one dream); as quoted by Dato' Seri Idris Jala in a recent interview. He was referring to different parties working together towards the same goal. It made me picture this little doodle.

Seoul Sketching

Seoul sketches: this occurred frequently- I'd be minding my own business, being all brown-skinned and un-Korean like, and groups of adorable young girls and teens would ask me where I was from and whether they could take a photo with me. Quite fun, doesn't matter if I'm filed in a 'strange overcooked people' album; I thought it very cute and sweet :D Kamsa hamnida, lil ladies, you made me smile! :)

I'm off to Seoul, Korea! Here's a doodle - with the Korean flag and a
hanbok (Korean traditional garment). The speech bubble means
'Hello/Welcome' in Korean. Au revoir, lovelies!

Helminthology & Worm Charming

Typing the name 'Helmi' Autocorrected to 'helminthology' - the study
of worms! On another note, there are international competitions for
Worm Charming - what does a charmed worm look like? Perhaps like this
doodle! :)

Happy Deepavali / Diwali!

The night before Deepavali is preparation night. We chop onions, garlic, ginger; seed the chillies, dice tomatoes, cube potates... and then the curries are cooked, the dhall is prepared, the thosai mix is blended. It's a night where we work together to create the flavours of Indian food, especially for Deepavali.

Tough nuts!

‎"Tough nuts!" -ok I didn't mean it *that* way! The story behind this doodle? A flat car tyre on the way to work! I've always changed these myself when it happens, but today I was foiled by those mechanically tightened lug-nuts! The socket wrench never stood a chance. Sigh.
